Monthly Challenge April 2014 Reveal Day

Happy Earth Day!

Still April right *smile* So what did you do on Earth Day? Done nothing? On April 22nd I raise funds to be donated to organization working for the environment. This time the funds will be donated to Polar Bear International. Unfortunately my Remaining Forest unsold. However, funds collected not bad amount *happy*

Lets get back to the Monthly Challenge for April. To celebrate Earth Day I picked Edward Foster's painting for source of inspiration. Here his out of ordinary painting about Mother Earth...

Gaia
Oil on canvas
60 x 48 inches
by

Edward Foster is a professional artist from UK. Edward exhibits throughout the country and has been featured in several national magazines. The majority of his paintings deal with personal experiences he has whilst in nature. Gaia is spiritual painting. A depiction of the Earth goddess.

With the Gaia painting for inspiration, finally I decided to make four bag charms...yes FOUR *giggling* to represent the four elements in the Earth...Fire...Air...Water...Earth...Just like last month, my design not only beadweaving, I used knotting and wirework too. Learning by doing...that is my motto for my jewelry making world *grin* So here my four elements bag charms...

::: CHOLERIC :::
Fire has been an important part of all cultures and religions from pre-history to modern day and was vital to the development of civilization. It has been regarded in many different contexts throughout history, but especially as a metaphysical constant of the world.
Here I used simple knotting tecnique. I am still very new about this technique. So do not be surprised if the result is less tidy *poor* I choose glass bangle, synthetic cord, red petal Gudo traditional glass beads,  Indopacific Gudo traditional glass beads in red and yellow.

::: SANGUINE :::
Air is often seen as a universal power or pure substance. Its supposed fundamental importance to life can be seen in words such as aspireinspireperspire and spirit, all derived from the Latin spirare.
Another wirework using seedbeads from me. Don't ask me about the cloud, that is pure my imaginary cloud *wink* although the result is still ugly, but there is a certain satisfaction that I feel when seeing the result become. The pink bird of Gudo tradional glass bead flying high in the clouds *giggle* and for the clouds I used faceted glass bead and China crystal beads plus cloud wirework.

::: PHLEGMATIC :::
Water is one of the elements in ancient Greek philosophy, in the Asian Indian system Panchamahabhuta, and in theChinese cosmological and physiological system Wu Xing. In contemporary esoteric traditions, it is commonly associated with the qualities of emotion and intuition.
Well...come back to my favorite technique, beadweaving. I used embellish peyote stitch. I choose electroplate drop glass beads, yellow fish Gudo traditional glass bead and delica for the embellish beads. I love the colors combo for this design *wink*

::: MELANCHOLIC :::
Earth is one of the four classical elements in ancient Greek philosophy and science. It was commonly associated with qualities of heaviness, matter and the terrestrial world. Due to thehero cults, and chthonic underworld deities, the element of earth is also associated with the sensual aspects of both life and death in later occultism.
Another simple knotting. Truly simple I think *grin* I tried to combine the land (brown) and various plant species that live on it (colorful). So I picked gaharu wood beads and tulip resin beads. Isn't it pretty ha?

I'm quite satisfy with my result *smile* Specially with the Air and the Water. A lot of learning process and exploring more jewelry technique. Now is time to visit other participant of this month challenge. Just click on their name ok...

  3. This is an impressive reveal: you have managed to refer to the four classic elements and you have added the fitfth one - the spirit. My favourite piece is the fish bag charm, but I think the four pieces are a whole and shouldn't be separated. Look forward to the next month challenge.
